Fourth Quarter 2022 - Seeds of Hope OH

Seeds of Hope OH is about connecting with the community to provide basic needs to foster and kinship families throughout the Miami Valley. On any given day in Ohio, there are over 16,000 children in foster care and over 124,000 children in kinship care. Seeds of Hope OH was born out of the need to support and encourage the families that care for these children. Over the past 3 years, they have filled over 1,000 need requests from foster and kinship families in Troy, Miami County, and the surrounding counties. They started with the idea of providing a small bag of basic needs including diapers, wipes, and pajamas. Quickly, they saw the need was far greater than this. Requests grew into larger care items including beds, car seats, baby care items and more. Soon they realized that along with the items, families were craving community. They began hosting monthly free shop days, support events and advocacy and education events to create a sense of community and encouragement.

The one thing they were missing was a food pantry. With the new addition to the Lincoln Community Center, space opened up within the original site of the building and created the opportunity to do something more. Within the first month of being open, the LCC Food Pantry has served nearly 100 customers and continues to receive positive feedback. The Give Where You Live grant of $6,330 will put a lot of food on the shelves!
